Showers
Showers can be installed on the wall over a bath, in a wet room or snuck into a tiny corner in an en-suite – such is their flexibility these days. Before choosing your shower though it’s worth looking into the water pressure of your home as this will have a bearing on the type of shower that will work best in your home.
Householders with a gravity fed system for instance, may need to invest in a shower pump to ensure there is enough pressure.
Different types of showers available
Manual mixer showers. These suit homes with high water pressure. They allow you to adjust the temperature by hand and are very easy to install.
Thermostatic mixer showers. The thermostatic valve (after which it’s named) keeps the water at a constant temperature - although it can also be adjusted manually. This shower is good for families with young children since the water temperature can be set automatically.
Electric showers. An electric shower is good for en-suites or cloakroom bathrooms since they don’t need a hot water feed. They’re also pretty economical.
Various shower heads to choose from
You can choose from fixed shower heads, riser kits or combination shower heads – all of which provide a great bathing experience. The fixed shower head, is as its name implies, is fixed to the bathroom wall and doesn’t move. The shower head for the riser kit can be adjusted up and down a vertical pole (so good if you have individuals with different heights in the home, such as children) while the combination shower offers the best of both in the form of a fixed shower hand and a manual hand set.
A wide variety of shower doors are available for your shower, such as bifold, sliding, pivot and hinged, as well as side panels of various sizes.
