Vanity basins are a combination of a bathroom sink and a rather sleek storage cupboard. The wash basins are either completely inset or semi recessed (ie with the front of the sink hanging over the edge of the unit) while the rest is inlaid.
Sitting underneath the sink is the much-needed cupboard area. This can be in the form of shelving or drawers, but the main point is that it’s somewhere in which you can hide all those toiletries and bathroom supplies which, if left lying around, would make your lovely new bathroom appear decidedly cluttered and untidy.
Vanity basins to match every bathroom décor theme
Whether you have opted for a contemporary, minimalist or traditional bathroom design, you are sure to find a vanity basin to co-ordinate with your existing look and, in so doing, give your bathroom a sophisticated and tailored appearance.
For starters, you can opt for a floor mounted free standing vanity basin or a compact wall hung version. The latter is particularly popular for space-compromised cloakroom bathrooms and en-suite bathrooms - thanks to the fact it ‘opens up’ the floor, making the room appear larger. It’s also easier to sweep the floor in question since there is no obstruction underneath the basin.
Vanity basins are also available in a range of finishes, including wood veneers in various light or dark shades, as well as glossy laminate or matt paint in plenty of primary colours, in addition to popular neutral shades such as white and black.
They may be a relatively recent innovation, but vanity basins are also available for Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco traditional bathrooms. These tend to be larger and with dramatic straight, rather than curved, lines. Some vanity units come with door and drawer handles already built in or attached, while more modern furniture boast ‘touch’ sensitive drawers or recessed handles.
