Vanity Units
A vanity unit is a piece of bathroom furniture that combines a bathroom sink with storage space underneath. These units are perfect for adding functionality without compromising on style. You can choose from a wide range of sizes, finishes, and designs to suit your layout and taste. Typically, a vanity unit includes drawers, cupboards, or shelves to store toiletries, towels, and other essentials, helping keep your floor space tidy and uncluttered.
You can pick between a floor standing vanity unit or a wall mounted unit, depending on your bathroom layout. Wall mounted vanity options work well in smaller rooms as they free up visible floor space, while standing vanity units are ideal if you want extra under-sink storage or have a larger bathroom.
Are Vanity Units a Good Idea?
Vanity units are a smart choice for any bathroom. Here’s why they work so well:
- Space-saving: A wall mounted vanity frees up floor space, making it perfect for cloakrooms or compact bathrooms.
- Organised storage: Integrated drawers or shelves help reduce clutter, especially useful for everyday items around the bathroom sink.
- Design options: Choose between modern, traditional, or minimalist styles in a variety of finishes. Whether you opt for a wall mounted unit or a floor standing vanity unit, there’s a match for every space.
- Style boost: A well-designed vanity can be the centrepiece of your bathroom, especially when paired with a statement mirror and quality accessories.
- Functionality: Combining storage with the basin makes your morning routine quicker and your bathroom easier to use.
Overall, vanity units are perfect for blending practicality with a clean design. They suit both compact cloakrooms and larger bathrooms and make the most of your available space.
How Far Should a Mirror Be Above a Vanity?
The ideal gap between your mirror and vanity is around 5 to 10 cm above the sink or vanity top. Most floor standing vanity units sit between 80 to 90 cm tall, so the bottom of the mirror should typically be positioned about 95 to 100 cm from the floor. If you're using a countertop basin, raise the mirror accordingly.
Always make sure the mirror is centred and works proportionally with the size of your vanity. A well-placed mirror improves both function and visual appeal.
